Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)



Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), is a course designed to provide health care providers the knowledge and skills needed to implement advanced cardiac life support. *A basic ECG interpretation class is recommended prior to the ACLS course. Register Early.



Class duration: 2 days. Register early

At the conclusion of the course the student will be able to:

Perform and manage the first ten minutes of a witnessed, adult, ventricular fibrillation cardiac arrest. ACLS Class in Houston

Perform the primary "ABCD" Survey of the cardiac patient including: early access, early CPR, airway management, use of the automatic external defibrillator and conventional defibrillator.

Perform secondary "ABCD" survey of the cardiac patient including: More definitive skills in airway breathing and circulation with endotracheal intubation, proper ventilation techniques, initiation of IV, use of pharmacological agents, recognition of arrhythmias, and the use of resuscitation algorithms in cardiac arrest management.

Describe patient management in the post-resuscitation period.

Participate in the assessment and team management of the ten core cases of ACLS: Respiratory Arrest, Pulseless Ventricular Fibrillation/Tachycardia with AED, Ventricular Fibrillation/Tachycardia Refractory to Initial Defibrillation, Pulseless Electrical Activity, Asystole, Acute Myocardial Infarction, Bradycardia, Stable Tachycardia, Unstable Tachycardia, and Strokes.

Integrate the AED with adult CPR skills.

Successful completion of this course includes 84% or more on the written examination and verification of skills in 10 cases and CPR/AED.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Recertification is generally done in concurrence with ongoing ACLS courses. Tailored to the needs of participants. Upon successful completion, participaants will receive and ACLS card.

ACLS Instructor Course is designed to give experienced ACLS providers the didactic and hands-on skills necessary to effectively teach others how to provide Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Students will learn how to develop effective presentation of ACLS information and materials, manage learning stations according to the resuscitation team concept and function as a leader in all components of an ACLS provider course. The class includes role-playing and class discussion of teaching techniques and strategies, including key points to emphasize to students. The students will be tested for proficiency in core teaching competencies, including communication and presentation sills, provide clarification and feedback, assess learning and performance, provide remediation, and ability to stimulate and motivate students.



Course Prerequisite:

A copy of your current BLS Healthcare Provider CPR card (front and back)
A copy of your current ACLS Provider card (front and back)
A minimum score or 90% on the provider written exam without remediation on the day of the instructor course
A current edition of the ACLS Provider book and ACLS Instructor manual
